Hi Jan,
I agree - they're great amps, plenty of tone variations with no background noise at all. I run mine through a 2x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion V30's.

I bought a '78 fawn Mark II 50 watt in '88. It has the 6550s. I love it. I play nothing else unless I have to. I use a '78 LP Custom and run it through a Bad Bones cab loaded with EVs. It's really loud. But it has more tone and more sustain than anything I've ever heard. I'm in love with this amp.
