Phidippus clarus - female - with prey - view 1

at the farm

I found this jumping spider on a raspberry leaf - June 21, 2006; 11:20 hrs.
It was carrying another jumping spider -- looked to be a smaller female,
possibly of the same species. It was not particulary nervous and seemed
quite determined to keep its prey.

Hi Roy, Thanks! I wondered the same thing. However, in a couple of the shots, it actually looks like the smaller spider may be a female as the pedipalps are just thin - and that would seem more typical of a female. However, I'm not really too sure. Unfortunately, I came along a little too late to see the action as it unfolded.

Superb images all round.Exceptional.
Could this be a failed mating attempt?
Male now food?
