One summer, these things were a little too problematic for me, as I'd find one or two in the house every other day. Being a true bug-a-phobe, this was unacceptable, as I get totally freaked out when they flip up, in their attempt to avoid my shoe. Their seemingly leathery and very flat shells are pretty durable, because they are not that easy to kill. Now, instead of trying to smack them down or squish them (not recommended, as it is too messy anyway), I just get the vacuum cleaner hose out, haha! It's also a great technique for a stray wasp or other flying insect that might accidentally get in the house, too. I'm not totally cruel ... I do give them a brief opportunity to escape through an opened door or window before I do 'em in.

All of these photos are excellent, crocodile. WOW.
