We spent much of our time turning over old cedar rails from a collapsed fence, as well as boards and shingles which had been dumped along the edge of the roadside in the first few meters along the edge of the alvar area. We found quite a number of snails, insects, millipedes and centipedes beneath the boards. These are some of the smallest of several species of snails which we found attached to the old cedar rails.
