St Catherine's College, Oxford

This one one of the first post WWII buildings to be awarded Grade 1 listing and on my recent visit to Oxford it was more than able to stand up against all the historic work from before 1900. It also made most of the early C20th stuff look like so much suet pudding and most from 1980 or so unlikely to be looked at twice.

designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen http://www.stcatz.ox.ac.uk/college/college-history in 1962, this set the standard for clean modern design in the UK for a decade. After that Architecture changed from being a profession to being a commodity to be manipulated by the fashion and marketing industries like soap
