crossing the Red Earl's dyke

the Shire Ditch running along the top of the Malvern Hills was attributed to Gilbert de Clare, the 'Red Earl' of Gloucester, in about 1287, during a boundary dispute with the Bishop of Hereford. I'm a history buff and love reading interesting info like that...
The dike acts as a nice leading line, the broken part of the dike does not deter ones eye from continuing further into this nice rural scene...
