It is not clear how much of the original tower remained in 1884 at the start of the modern re-occupation and re-build, see http://www.buckfast.org.uk/site.php?id=7914 and how much (most?) is C12th revival

This is a very beautiful and awesome photo. It looks the wood pieces are used on the wall and on the roof, it looks like gold.

That roof is absolutely beautiful! I'm always amazed that our ancestors were able to undertake such a feat and design with such amazing architecture. The roof looks like it's gold-plated; do you know if it is?
