St Edmundsbury Cathedral and things

We do not have a cathedral in Suffolk to aspire to Norwich or Ely; this one is only recently finished, but no match for Liverpool.

St Edmund was a good and holy king, so inevitably came to a sticky end. A monument in Hunstanton says he had arrows fired at him till dead. The abbey dedicated to his name and posthumous sainthood was built in Bury St Edmunds, but mostly destroyed in the disolution/expropriation, only the grounds left full of ruins ( http://www.burystedmunds.co.uk/cathedral-abbey-gardens.html . The remains of the abbey church were rebuilt in 1503 and dedicated as a cathedral in 1914 and completed in 2005 ( http://www.cathedralsplus.org.uk/index.php/front_end/member/85/about.html

It is rather upstaged by the Church of St Mary about a hundred yards uphill and my gallery will be a wilful mixture of the two on a 'guess which' theme

A wonderful gallery with so many beautiful images. The strain glass windows are incredible as are the vaulted ceilings. So much history here. Voted
