Black Country Museum, Dudley

An extremely well thought-through display of both a key area of the 18th century 'industrial revolution'and also a moving evocation of a small town in England in the 1940s. Rightly billed as a 'Live museum' and operated by an incredibly pleasant bunch of skillfull and knowledgable people. It back-to-backs the Dudley Canal Trust section of canal and mines, which I have mostly put in my canal gallery. Taken on outing of the Newent Camera Club, June 2007. The Derby camera club were there too, now I wonder where you find their pics...

These living museums provide great photo opportunities. Barry Beckham has a very good AV that is free to download if you are interested. Thanks for posting. Regards John

Thanks for the wonderful photos for those of us "across the pond.!"
Our Probert ancestors worked in Dudley, later working as forgemen in Glasgow, then as hammermen in Allegheny (Pittsburgh), PA and San Francisco, CA (1870s - 1890s.)
We can't find what ship they took to cross the Atlantic, or where they landed!

Thanks so much for sharing these. My husband's mother's Smithyman family were iron workers in Dudley before they followed the steel industry to Yorkshire, then finally to Pittsburgh, PA between 1881-1890.
