This bird came to my feeder in April 1992 with a flock of "regular" Redpolls. It really stood out, and stayed around for several days. My old dog had just died when this happened, and as my little 3 year old daughter and I were watching them, I had an eerie feeling when she said "Mommy, is Merlyn a bird now?" (Merlyn was the dog's name.) I couldn't help but think he WAS with us in this unique bird that looked right in the window at us. (The feeder was on the window and the photos were taken through the glass. I just scanned then to get a better look.) In any case, this bird is....? Different.
