December 15 - Church of St Lawrence with Maude's Cottage (HDR)

Swindon Village

The church is late 12th century with a hexagonal tower.
The legend of Maude is one of a beautiful girl, murder, suicide, witchcraft and a mysterious admirer.

"Now here is a tale, a story to be told
Of a young girl, but fifteen years old
Impaled as a vampire, her mother burned as a witch
These were the crimes, the crimes of the rich."

Things were so much more exciting in medieval times.

Beautiful moody image. Your commentary sounded so interesting, I looked it up, quite a sad story.

lighting and treatment just the job for a bit of witchery pokery; must catch up with the hexagonal (hexed?) tower

Interesting and moody scene, fitting well with the dark stories of old. I have never seen a hexagonal church tower before. V.

But which came first?
The cottage or the graveyard.
A grand, spooky, Winter's tale.

Maude's tale seems a macabre one...perhaps it was a sign that her cottage was in a graveyard...what a suitably ominous sky...V
