14NOV03 - CivitÓ di Bagnoregio

They call it "The Dying City" because the clay that it is built on is slowly crumbling away, and taking the city with it. Visiting this town is like escaping daily life and visiting another world - there are only SIX permanent inhabitants, two dogs, and a cat. The only way to reach it is by the pictured bridge, on foot, as the bridge is not wide enough to accomodate cars. The resulting atmosphere is one of absolute calm, absolute quiet, and incredible serenity. I thoroughly enjoyed myself here, though there was absolutely nothing to do. Just sitting and listening to the leaves play in the wind was enough to entertain me.
