North- and Northeast-Australia, South-New Guinea.

The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Notamacropus agilis agilis - Northern Territory (North-Australia);
Notamacropus agilis jardinii - North- and East-Queensland (Northeast-Australia);
Notamacropus agilis nigrescens - Kimberley and Arnhemland (Northwest-Australia);
Notamacropus agilis papuanus - South- and Southeast-New Guinea.
