Northern Tamandua - Tamandua mexicana - Noordelijke Boommiereneter
East-Mexico to Northwest-Venezuela and west of the Andes south to Northwest-Peru.

The following 4 subspecies are being recognized:
Tamandua mexicana mexicana - East-Mexico south to Central-Honduras;
Tamandua mexicana opistholeuca - Guatemala and South-Honduras to Northwest-Colombia;
Tamandua mexicana instabilis - Colombia and West-Venezuela;
Tamandua mexicana punensis - Southwest-Ecuador, Northwest-Peru and Puna Island.
