Europe to Central-Asia and North-Africa. Winters to sub-saharan Africa and India.
The following 10 subspecies are being recognized:
Motacilla flava flavissima - Britain and coastal Europe. Winters to Africa;
Motacilla flava lutea - Southwest-Russia to Northwest- and Northcentral-Kazakhstan. Winters to Africa and India;
Motacilla flava flava - North- and Central-Europe to the Ural Mountains. Winters to Africa;
Motacilla flava beema - Southwest-Siberia and Northeast-Kazakhstan to West-Himalayas. Winters to India, Arabia and East-Africa;
Motacilla flava iberiae - Iberian Peninsula, Southwest-France and Northwest-Africa. Winters to West- and Northcentral-Africa;
Motacilla flava cinereocapilla - Italy, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia and Slovenia. Winters to Central-Africa;
Motacilla flava pygmaea - Egypt;
Motacilla flava leucocephala - Northwest-Mongolia, Northwest-China and Southcentral-Siberia. Winters to India;
Motacilla flava feldegg - the Balkans and Turkey to Iran and Afghanistan. Winters to South-Asia, Northeast- and Central-Africa;
Motacilla flava thunbergi - North-Europe to Northwest-Siberia. Winters to Africa and South- and Southeast-Asia.
