The following 6 subspecies are being recognized:
Gerygone magnirostris conspicillata - Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Kofiau Island (West-Papua), Vogelkop (Northwest-New Guinea);
Gerygone magnirostris affinis - North-New Guinea and nearby islands;
Gerygone magnirostris rosseliana - Louisiade and D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago;
Gerygone magnirostris brunneipectus - South-New Guinea, Aru Island and the islands in the Torres Strait;
Gerygone magnirostris magnirostris - North-Australia;
Gerygone magnirostris cairnsensis - Northeast-Australia.
