It's more than an GND filter, Sean. Knowing you, it's probably a bracketed and blended exposure (and focus) for increased dynamic range (and DOF). I am greatly appreciating the detail INSIDE the windows that you've preserved, while at the same time marveling at the sharp detail of the leaves. As always, fantastic work!
Hi Niall-
This shot used all natural lighting. I did use a graduated neutral density filter to maintain contrast and brightness in the lower half, while at the same time preventing the lights in the top half from becoming overpowering. There was also fabulous cross-lighting originating in the corridors surrounding this courtyard-- giving the leaves a bit more contrast and shine.
Regards,
-Sean
This is a fabulous shot. John's looks like a Christmas tree and the exaggurated leaves running up to the foreground give geat perspective. I assumed you used a strong flash as fill for this but obviously not. How did you light this?
