Elk Herd Locations in Boxley Valley near Ponca, AR 10/19/12
This is my Friday map of elk herd locations in Boxley Valley near Ponca, Arkansas. These elk are easy to photograph from the road. For that reason, the valley draws photographers from all over the US. The best time for viewing is from daybreak to 9 AM and after 5 PM.

It is finally cold enough to get these shots. I like this one with the rim lighting and the calf elk getting out of the way. Shooting like this is just about every day now. Ponca, Arkansas is within 2 tanks of gas of about 20% of the US population.

Other than for Estes Park, CO, Ponca Arkansas' Boxley Valley is probably the best venue for elk photographers. Boxley Valley is in a narrow canyon and elk are never too far from the roadsides. The pictures you see in this blog are all from Boxley Valley.
Great elk viewing will continue for at least a month, and it will be very good until the the end of the year.
