Sylvan Glen, Yorktown NY 07 09 05

Steve, our Spores Illustrated editor in chief was the leader for this Saturday walk. In attendance we had Don, Roger, Chuck and Peggy(?), Matt, Kathryn and David from Manhattan and Cortlandt visitors, MaryLou and Eric.
Steve recalls the group finding the following specimens at this lovely park:

Russula (several species - white, green, red, brown)
Amanita citrina, Amanita cokeri, Amanita rubescens, and Amanita flavoconia
Cantharellus cinnabarinus, as well as Cantharellus cibarius
Pluteus cervinus (the pink-spored 'Deer' or 'Fawn' Mushroom)
Tylopilus alboater (edible)
Boletus sensibilis (considered poisonous)
Tylopilus sp (yellow stipe, brown pileus, just a button)
Lactarius hygrophoroides and Lactarius volemus (both edible)
Hygrocybe flavescens
Mycena galericulata
Tricholomopsis platyphylla
Polyporus varius, the 'Black-footed Polypore' also found on the previous two walks.
The list does not include the unidentified LBM that was growing in clusters in a log that Steve photographed. My guess is that it may be a Collybia, such as Collybia acervata. In any case, it appears to be white-spored, which eliminates the purple-black spored, wood-inhabiting Psathyrella from contention...
