The Cortinarii have attached gills, a cob-webby veil and rust-brown spores. Cortinarius alboviolaceous is pale silvy-lilac in color and has a club-shaped base. It is terrestrial and is mycorrhizal with hardwoods. One has to be careful not to confuse it with the Bluit (Lepista or Clitocybe nuda), an edible which appears in the fall in our area of the country.
