10 01 06 Sylvan Glen, Yorktown, NY

Steve led this terrifically prolic walk in Yorktown's Sylvan Glen Nature Preserve. We took the 'easy walk' and found there were more fungi than we had time to investigate. However, Steve had a plan of helping us hit the most promising spots for edibles and he hit 'the mark'. Everyone went home with arms full of Grifola frondosa (Hen of the Woods.) Caleb even found a good fruiting of Hericium. Vincent and others also found some Lepista (Clitocybe) nuda (Blewits), which many people enjoy eating (after cooking, of course). Lisa collected several edible Russulas and lots of odd gatherings for her kids to look over and find amazing. Lou kept finding striking amanitas and mycenas which he graciously brought to me to see and photograph.
