09 09 07 NYMS/COMA Joint Walk and Picnic at Pelton Pond, Fahnestock State Park

The promised rain showers came the night before our walk rather than during it, so it was an unexpectedly pleasant outing for all who participated. Despite the previous couple of weeks of dry weather, the little bit of rain that did fall the night before our walk was sufficient to swell up the primordial mycelia of several species of mushrooms into recognizable fungi. As we got a late start, we were unable to scout out all of our favorite haunts for mushrooms, but we did manage to gather a variety of species along either side of the main trail around Pelton Pond. Here is the list of recorded species as best as I can recall:
Agarics: Amanita bisporigera; Amanita brunnescens; Amanita flavoconia; Amanita fulva; Amanita rubescens; Amanita vaginata; Cortinarius alboviolaceus; Cortiarius collinitis; Entoloma abortivum (both forms); Gymnopilus sapineus; Hygrocybe flavescens; Laccaria amethystina (syn. Laccaria amethystea); Laccaria laccata var. pallidifolia; Laccaria sp.; Lactarius piperatus; Lactarius sp.; Lactarius subpurpureus; Russula compacta; Russula ochroleucoides; Russula spp., Russula variata; Xeromphalina campanella
Pleurotoid: Panellus stipticus
Polypores: Climacocystis borealis; Ganoderma applanatum; Ganoderma tsugae; Laetiporus sulphureus (alien); Sparassis sp. (alien); TYrametes versicolor; Trichaptum biforme;
Toothed Fungi: Hydnellum scrobiculatum;
Boletes: Boletus edulis complex; Gyroporus casteneus; Leccinum chromapes; Leccinum scabrum; Strobilomyces floccopus; Suillus granulatus; Tylopilus felleus
Gastromycetes: Scleroderma citrinum
Chanterelles and Trumpets: Craterellus fallax; Craterellus tubaeformis;
Jellies: Dacrymyces palmatus
Ascomycetes: Hypomyces hyalinus
