We had some rain during the past week, and so were hopeful we would find some mushrooms popping out of the earth. I reckon we are a good three weeks behind the past four or five years in terms of when we are seeing mushrooms we typically see at this time of year. But this day we witnessed the start of the season I expected to appear by the last week of June. So I am happy. Better late than never!

In addition, I was out a couple of days before and came across some of the same fungi as above, as well as Tremella reticulata for the first time in my life (although it is apparently not uncommon) and a good example of Tremella foliacea. Other 'jelly fungi' included Auricula auricularia; Bisporella citrina; Calocera cornea; Dacrymyces palmatus. Also seen was Amanita ceciliae; Amanita rubescens; Amanita vaginata; Amanita volvata; ; Conocybe sp.; and Lactarius controversus.
