I used to think Turkey Mountian should more accurately be called Turkey Hill until we decided to climb to the top to take in the view. Being overcast, we couldn't see much of the reservoir and nothing of NYC which can be easily seen on a clear day. Neverthless, as they say, it was the journey to and from the summit which was not only challenging but also fruitful. Our most interesting finds included the following first examples of the season: a clump of young Hericium erinaceus on a fallen beech tree; Amanita bisporigera or virosa, the 'Death Angel;' Amanita ceciliae; Agaricus silvicola; Cortinarius alboviolaceus, Boletus maculatus and young Hydnellum. In addition we documented the following other fungi: Russula mariae and several other unidentifed russulas, Boletus chrysenteron, Auticularia auricula, Tremella mesenterica, Tremellodendron pallidum, Artomyces pyxidata, Fomes fomentarius, Trichaptum biformis, Mycena leiana, Megacollybia platyphylla, Pluteus cervinus, Irpex lactea, Chlorociboria aeruginacens, Sterum ostrea, Pleurotus ostreatus and Ganoderma applanatum. As for myxomycetes, we found Lycogala epidendrum, Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa and Stemonitis fusca.
