05/02/12 Microscopy and Gary Lincoff

Wednesday evening was a two-fer! Taro Ietaka brought several microscopes to the Friends’ Meeting House where several of COMA’s Mushroom University students attended a workshop under his tutelage. Afterwards, we had a special program by Gary Lincoff on foraging for wild foods. He and his wife Irene prepared several dishes (as did the Brandts and Vreni) so that everyone could taste some of the delicious dishes that could be easily created. Around fifty people attended the illustrated talk, which is a preview of Gary’s Upcoming book, The Joy of Foraging. Of the mushrooms brought in for identification were a large deliquescing Coprinus comatus and the ‘Fried Chicken Mushroom’, Lyophyllum decastes.
