le Viaduc de Millau (The world's highest road bridge)
Taller than the Eiffel Tower and just 38m shorter than the Empire State building. The viaduc de Millau is the tallest vehicular bridge in the world (as at August 2006).
Opened in December 2004, the bridge carries the A75 autoroute through to the south of France all the way from Paris.
Designed by French bridge engineer Michel Virlogeux in collaboration with British architect Norman Foster, the bridge is a cable-stayed road bridge that spans the valley of the River Tarn, saving the town of Millau from the massive congestion it used to suffer especially during holiday seasons.
