In July 2011 Thomas Hultquist, Andreas Karlsson and I went on a one-week road trip to northern Sweden, more precisely to the sparsely-populated provinces of Härjedalen, Jämtland and Lappland. We were very fortunate to have excellent wheather during most of our trip and birds and other wildlife were abundant. 2011 saw the greatest year for norwegian lemming in Scandinavia in three decades! This resulted in good numbers of owls, skuas and polar fox, which all feed on lemmings. Furthermore, the omnipresent lemmings boosted the numbers of shorebirds and passerines, since they were no longer fed upon.
