Dutch Post Impressionist
Ranks with Monet as one of the most well known painters of the late 19th Century. He produced around 900 paintings, of which most were created in the last two or three years of his life. He suffered many bouts with mental illness and took his own life in 1890. He was considered to be a Post Impressionist, but was also a pioneer of what became known as the Expressionist movement. His style is instantly recognizable from the other painters of the day.
