This man was hired as a plantation foreman or overseer
He was to earn $200 for the year, which was better than some who only earned $175/yr
He also gained "use" but not ownership of 10-12 acres of land (quite a perk!)
Notice he garnered some monies for a house . . .$15, which was deducted from his $200

"COMMENCING WITH ME IN January (he) is to attend constantly and faithfully to all my business as overseer on my quarter place for the present year and if he continues to do so to the end of the year I am to pay him two hundred dollars for his services and give his family the use of 10 or 12 acres of land to cultivate. (Mr) Page providing all his own provisions for himself and his family and feeding his one horse if he keeps one - "
