Tai Chi

Exchange Square, Hong Kong

This amazing sculpture, reminiscent of a man practising Tai Chi, stands outside Exchange Square, Hong Kong.

"Tai Chi" is an internal Chinese martial art. Tai chi helps people to get soft martial techniques, improve health and achieve longevity.

Today, Tai Chi has spread worldwide. Groups of people practise together every morning in parks around the world, particularly in China.

The smiling cow behind the 'master' adds some interesting element in this photo. I learnt Tai Chi for 3 years and it helps strengthen both our small muscles, joints and blood circulation.

The perspective you selected finely captures light and shadow, form and texture, and sets this brilliant sculpture nicely against the city backdrop. ~V~

AND..although completely different, it does remind me of our INUKSHUK. For centuries, the Inuit people of Canada’s Arctic stacked rock in human form to create the inukshuk, a steadfast guidepost that provided direction across the vast horizons of the North. Over time, the inukshuk has become a symbol of hope and friendship, an eternal expression of the hospitality of a nation that warmly welcomes the people of the world with open arms every day. Voilà!

This is so beautiful...it brings peace and balance in the heart of those tall buildings that usually give the impression of not enough space to breathe. A common impression for every big cities's downtowns in the world...

Nice picture! Actually this sculpture is part of the "Tai Chi" series done by a famous Taiwanese sculptor named Ju Ming. There are many other great pieces in the collection. He opened up an outdoor museum to solely display all his sculptures. It's a must see when visiting Taiwan.

If you did not say that it is about Tai Chi, i did not know it. I would look it as a strong and fat man who extends his leg as long as possbile and try to make himself balance to how he can do such a difficult pose. It's so funny.

I realy like this sculpture... it inspires calm in the middle of frenzy, the frenzy being behind every windows of the highrises in the background. Great angle... very well done CM.
