Sir Robert Laird Borden was the eighth Prime Minister of Canada from October 10, 1911, to July 10, 1920, and the third Nova Scotian to hold this office. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for the Halifax riding in the 1896 federal election, the same election in which Laurier became PM.
