500 Arhats

Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, Hong Kong view map

There are 500 Arhats arranged in rows along the stairs to the Monastery.
Everyone of them is unique and close to life size.
Despite the gold colour, their faces and expressions look almost alive.

According to buddhist stories, those who attain Arhatship have to give up their greed and anger.
They are no longer trapped in the cycle of "rebirth and redeath".
