Hi Claude,

Wonderful pictures. Truly, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder but here the heart seems most appropriate. You made my day. I truly believe India's treasure is her people ,so different yet so similar. You have chosen a wonderful subject.

Hi Claude,

this is amazing and really nice to knw that u appreciate India for its beauty and originality.. I am not sure if I saw photos of the place in far east India like Sikkim or Meghalaya.. they are some unique and un touched places which might draw attention of of lens..
D V Dilip kumar 01-Nov-2007 16:48
Dear Renault, this is Dilip Kumar from Tirupati, India. I must praise you for your feelings about India. I just seen some of your photos of Tirupati, Sabarimala etc., They are simply superb. I do love photography, but certainly not as much as you do. I own a Nikon FM 10. Best wishes to you and keep-it-up.

Hi Claude
I like the way you have name the Gallery "My India". I don't remember, if I have ever heard/read it by this conviction from some outsider (thou it will be wrong to say you an outsider, as India lives in your heart more than many of us).
W.r.t. Photography, technically these pictures are indeed superb (can't say much as I am not eligible), however the feelings, perspective, mind, heart, soul and the mundane body behind them was laudable.
Before viewing your Gallery, when I used to surf thru other photographers galleries, I used to think that most of the cities in world, which have been caputered, are so beautiful (materially, big buildings, glamour, clean roads...) and of course there are such things in my country also, but no photographer catches them. They only show the poverty of India, the not so clean roads, the poor and malnutrition people. However the way you have showed the pictures, it doesn't shows that at any time in you mind, there was a thought that I have to show the world the other side (bad side) of India. And also it gives a clarity in my mind that the real treasure in India is in its simplicity and approach towards life of the people...thou it might not be that glamorous. I like your thoughts about "MY" India (Our India) :-)
Thanks for sharing your real treasure to the world

Namasté ! Cher Claude,
Encore mille MERCI !!
Delphine, une admiratrice parisienne.

Hi Claude,

thanks for visiting my childish photo pages. Its a great pleasure to have you on our country... as it will certainly yield many masterpieces. I loved the way you captured India - not by only showing poverty, which is a favorite topi for many photogs - but by showing its life, its color, its motion and its emotions. Great all the way.

Regarding the banner I just created a long shaped blank image of 757X115 pixel size. Then opened different photographs of mine opened in PS and cloned some area of the blank image with each of them. Changed the color cast. Uploaded in pBase. Then written the html as below in the Root Gallery Description to include it in the home page. The HTML is

Hope it helps you. Warm Regards,

Well done Claude - I haven't been to India yet although I get a real sense of the place and people through your sensitive portraits and accurate portrayal of ordinary people. I'm a Graphic Designer by trade and it's also great to see good, colourful compositions like that of 'the Blue rickshaw' and 'Temple Going' photographs. I'll be back to see more..keep it up and let us know if you decide to publish them. Excellent.

Your galleries inspire me. This is a wonderful depiction of life in India. In my photos I have tried to capture the artistic and cultural side of India, as that appeals to me so much. The architecture of the monuments are unsurpassed even today. In your photos, I see the other spectrum, the daily life as it is today in rural India. It is truly wonderful. Keep up the great work!

What amazes me about your India photos in particular is that in so many situations, it seems that the light should have been strong enough to have blown-out highlights or be unflattering to your subject. But in all your photos you are able to choose the perfect lighting situation and control the exposures so well that the finished photos are just absolutely vibrant and spectacular. Really first rate photography.

Dear Claude,
I have just discovered your magnificent galleries of India.
They've brought me close to tears, rekindling all the emotions
which have remained dormant since my visit 15 years ago ....
a truly life-changing experience.
You've captured so powerfully and eloquently in your amazing portraits,
the profound spirituality, warmth, humanity, humility and hospitality of the people,
as well as their ability to embrace adversity and celebrate life.
Your brilliant images also attest to India's unique place in world history,
culture and spirituality.
I'm so thrilled that you were also moved so powerfully by the Ellora rock-cut temples;
you've captured the spirit of Kailash beautifully.
However, you've omitted images of the Ajanta caves; I hope you didn't miss out on that phenomenal experience! Maybe the monsoon deluge threw a spanner into the works.
I feel that Ajanta eclipses Ellora because of the greater antiquity
and the fact that the caves were excavated through sheer devotion to the Buddha,
rather than at the behest of the Brahmins as at Ellora.
The PBase community and the world at large is so fortunate to have such convenient access
your astonishingly beautiful and profound galleries.
You are enormously inspirational and a great teacher.
I would value your comments and advice to improve my photography.
May I wish you much happiness and fulfilment in your career and life.
Go well,
Raymond ....

Hi Claude,
Your way of seeing India is wonderful and fresh. Your photos are among the very best I've ever seen from India if not the best of them all.
Regards, Gil.
Christa Neuenhofer 29-Apr-2006 13:52
Hi, Claude,
You have really got wonderful images of India.
Like yours, my heart also belongs to India.
Under one of my photos you wrote that you would like to go to Nagaland. But have you (who has been nearly all over India) already been to Arunachal Pradesh in Northeast India? I think this state is even much more interesting than Nagaland. I have posted four galleries about that state where I have been three times now. ( http://www.pbase.com/neuenhofer ) Regards Christa

Anna Pagnacco 27-Apr-2006 11:51
Good afternoon Claude!
Glad my first comment of the day comes from you:-)
My India is mostly done of candid portraitures, the enviroment is neglected intentionally
I have captured some other kind of pics but I will post them on another gallery.
Have you been to Burma?
If not...you should go to that country not completely ruined by the tourists yet
I am sure you would fall in love with it , I did
It is still my favorite country after India and Nepal.

You are a great professional photographer ......I am only an amateur :-))

Ciao
Anna

Thank you for your comments on my Sicily PAD! You Indian pictures really show the way it is and capture the heart and soul of the country. Wonderful! I too travel tons and live abroad. Eastern cultures are so seldom seen the way they truly exist in the western world. Bravo for attempting and achieving such heart!

Hi Claude! We are looking at each other's images at the same time, I just saw your comments on my site after I left some on yours... you have done such great work since we first starting to talk a couple of years ago! Yes, I am indeed a mac user and can't think of a better system! I can see your reasons for going with the 5D, my 1Ds MarkII is quite heavy taking around on visiting trips, and you may have more than one body at any time...

Thanks for leaving a comment on the picture of the actor as Rama in the Khon performance in Bangkok. You said you didn't know that Rama was celebrated in Thailand. The Ramayana here has been translated with a new ending and is called the Ramakien. And the kings of the Chakri dynasty, which is the current dynasty, are all named Rama. The present king of Thailand is King Rama 9.

Claude - terrific - it's the kind of candid, kind portraiture we aspire too (but rarely achieve) when we travel to those colourful corners of the world.

Shared it with all of my sons!

Merci

Merci encore

I like your photos a lot, and I'm very, very hard to please. Many of them are wonderfully composed and executed. They're not all absolute winners, but I think you've got the eye to know which ones are and which ones fall short. I must ask this question to one who loves India and lives in Iceland -- you got an Icelandic bed-mate?

Certaines de tes photos on réussi à me faire pleurer… Innombrables sont ceux qui s'y essaient, you are Thy Master, I'd like to be your sheshia…

Mille merci
