During the 2012 Fire Season the Dunsmuir-Mott Airport supported aircraft during mop-up of the fires in the Big Bend area above the Pit River.
A California National Guard helicopter has been fueled and is returning to the fire area. Note the flexible bucket suspended below the helicopter, this will be used to lift water from rivers and lakes to be dropped on the fire. The California Army Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter has a 2,000-gallon capacity (ref CalGuard Website). Written permission is required to reproduce any material contained in this website.
