The derailed freight cars would be lifted from their sides by a D-8 bulldozer with a large hook and winch on the rear and then slide down the embankment behind the bulldozer. Some cars were positioned to be unloaded while others were simply positioned for access to be cut up and scrapped. The expeditious way to move a box car at the time was to lift one end off the ground with a front end loader and then shove from the other end with a bulldozer. The trucks were often moved as an assembly with the bucket of a front end loader using chain looped around the axles and hooked back to the chain or bucket hooks.
