Incredible, just incredible. I was lucky enough to see a female and chick at the nest in Venezuela, but love to see others experiences with Harpies as well. Great shot.

It was all worth Tom!!!
I always want to cry when I see an image of this awesome bird... I got one nesting so close and for so long in Guyana... but I wasn't taking pictures back them and my camera was as good as a disposable!!! ... hope to go back there sometime...

Wonderful capture! Congratulations! - V -

What a collosal effort Tom! You're description is so complete that I can just picture you struggling to set up your tripod and sliding down the muddy embankment while trying to take the shot. We photographers go to no end of trouble for a beautiful shot like this. Fantastic capture. Beautiful framing, details in the feathers, and composition.

Wow Tom,
Welcome back, this is indeed a rare find, and an interesting bird. I've read that Ecuador is a bird rich enviroment, but didn't know it involved so much effort. I hope all you're excursions didn't involve this much work, and that you found some time to kick back and relax too. I'm anxiously waiting to see more from your trip.

Hi Tom,
What a unique and wonderful shot!! I could tell the minute I saw it that it was not a bird that was very plentiful. At least I have never seen one before. His feet are interesting in and of themselves. Glad you're back and thank you for sharing this beautiful and rare creature. \/

welcome back and a great image and a beauty of a harpy eagle.
Barbara Read and Fred Schaad05-Feb-2008 15:32
Nice tight crop of the Harpy. You are one lucky dude to get 100 shots of this guy. You must have used a 2.0x teleconverter on that 300? V
