This time of year Fisheries and Oceans technicians attend that the spawning ground
at the Stave River and with their power skiff put out a small purse seine net which
is then closed and pulled in by hand ( https://pbase.com/cliff0108/image/88676434). Male and female fish of the correct variety (this batch was Chinook and Coho) are then
selected and eggs and sperm are removed. These are quickly taken to the hatchery and
placed in an incubator for hatching. The resulting fry are released here and will eventually
return to this very spot from the Pacific Ocean to spawn at the end of their life and the cycle repeats.
