October 4 2004:
Under African Skies

Well, the trees remind me of the African savannah, although I have, of course, never been there.

I’d like to re-take this shot with the benefit of a higher shutter speed and the use of RAW. Meanwhile, you can see the original colour version HERE

Photoshop:
Resized
Converted to monochrome via Channel Mixer
Adjusted Grey Channel in C Mixer: Red +98% and Blue +34%
Framed: using # FFFFFF

Very good composition. Beautiful b&w picture.

This is much better in B&W . . and I too thought from the thumb that you'd somehow gotten to Africa =]

I prefer the black and white as well. This looks like it belongs on my.. er .. a wall. I think of the trees in Africa as well... Nicely done, Ray

I like the B&W better. Is more dramatic.

Looks like the Savannah, you might expect to see a herd of wildebeast in the distance!
Katie Chew04-Oct-2004 20:42
Excellent!
Bill Miller04-Oct-2004 19:32
This is lovely and B&W works exceptionally well here.

Excellent. It does look like an African savannah. The grasses aren't very tall though. Neat composition, the way the trees fit together.

Wow! Hard to believe this is England! Not exactly the view you normally see there, or what I think of. Having just watched that film "Out of Africa" coincidentally last night I do see why you have entitled this shot African Skies. The color version is also good but I do like the crisp black and white here, which gives a bit more drama to the effect. Beautiful!

I like the conversion. I thought I was the only one that liked to add up to over 100%.

Great sky ya got there!! Very pretty, nice weather, I want a coffee! (no reason that I said that other than a basic JHR need!)

Oooh, Ray, I like this a lot!! Great tones. Excellent minimal composition.
