Coming back to this. Great to see it made the final inspection. I wouldn't change a thing here - for me this absolutely defines the meaning of urban melancholy and is as relevant as paradise lost. An outstanding image

Maybe in black'n white?

very worthwhile comments Jeff and Lawrence...I'm still thinking about this one myself. For me Jeff, the melancholy here comes from two stories...the first, is the lonliness of the tree itself in this less than picturesque surrounding. Second, the obvious bulldozer tracks foretelling a sad fate for the future of this scene.

Agree with Lawrence. Excellent! Really strong story-telling component to this. While it wouldn't have so much meaning, I think cropping the bottom fourth or so off (right below the dirt) would make an interesting image in its own right. Anyway, while I really like this image, does it fit into your theme of "melancholy?"

Brilliant. Absolutely love this. Extremely powerful message as the tree stands solitary but the inevitability of its fate is assured. Not sure if this and "progress" are competing for a single place - if they are, my vote would go to this. Is wonderfully meaningful and exceptionally well seen and executed. While not as complex as some of the other pictures in your gallery, the impact is huge. Love it and voted.
