Don't you just love mono-coloured skies?

What a vision, Chuck. This is uncanny composition. Tension, flow, just an amazing shot.

WOW, to me it is like a painting! Superb!

Yes, a strange image indeed, but one that draws you in to study it...again and again. I like the exact dividing of the image with the light pole and the drab mood that it conveys. Very interesting and well seen, Chuck. Yep, you've got me humming the song, too.

So Lawrence...whether you are familiar with the song or not...your interpretation is right on the mark.

I must confess that the Joni Mitchell lyrics were playing in my head as I was composing the shot....it just seemed appropriate. Glad to see that the 'not so subtle' reference was picked up on. I almost titled this "paved paradise" but that seemed to obvious.

Once again I get to one of your shots to find others have summed it all up perfectly, including the Joni Mitchell reference! This is such an eloquent image, for all the reasons others have put their finger on, and definitely one of my favourites of the series so far. The contrast between the natural trees and the manmade desolation around them is spot-on - a TV camera instead of a light would have been even better, but you work with what you find! Voted.

Just to "riff" further on the Paradise Lost title . . . my interpretation is that there is an attempt for man-made structures (symbolized by light pole) to overpower nature (symbolized by trees) which has resulted in desolation (symbolized by empty parking lot). All enhanced by the moody tones of the image. Also, the "artificial" light has failed and is now "dark."

I think Joni Mitchell could identify with that. The bare trees are the finishing touch on this shot.

Oh this is very cool. What a strangely unique scene. It is great vision to see this - the lampost looks almost uncomfortably tall and thin and I love how you have centered it to emphasise it as the centrepiece. The two background trees more towards the edge of the photo set it off perfectly. In terms of relevance to the theme, I had to look to the title for help on this. I wasn't entirely sure what "paradise lost" was referring to at first and had to sit and stare for a while. I think I'll hazard a guess however that it's referring to the fact that the trees were not planted here, but were part of a previously green and beautiful area that has since been concreted over... Whether it's intent or my interpretation, after making that link, I saw the picture in a whole new light beyond the subject and composition. This is pure brilliance.

damn typo!
striking! striking composition.

stiking composition and precisely lit.

A great addition - I think fits the project wonderfully. Love the vertical composition and processing, as always, top-notch. The contrast between the lamp and trees creates a strong story-telling aspect.

Just superb. The color and tones are wonderful., composition great (actually better than great) and the organic/inorganic elements of trees-poles-cones is perfect. A simple and beautiful symphony. Vote.

Love the sheen on that pole. Strange image.
