This was a shot looking to capture texture on a mist filled morning. It was a difficult morning for subject matter. My 150 floral shots that morning weren't doing much for me so I found this dead leaf covered in a web of dew drops..and figured what the heck. After seeing it larger, out of the camera, I liked the color and texture. One thing I was proud of that day was all of my in-camera cropping. I have been much more aware of what I am shooting thinking about that. Plus it makes life so much easier coming up with the final photo.

All that said, do you think I should have made the dew drops the main focus of the shot versus the leaf?

In answer to your question, how could you make the drops your focus without first removing the leaf? If you removed the leaf, chances are the you would have had a gaping 'hole' where there was no longer the leaf as well as any drops-stay with your instincts here and do what you did-this is another POTW for you.
