A few hours in Seattle, West Point, and New York

In February 2006 I made a trip to Seattle to visit Microsoft, West Point to give a lecture to some cadets, and New York on the way back to England. I was caught up in the great East Coast blizzard and spent 26 hours stranded at Detroit airport. While at Detroit I met possibly one of the most unpleasent person I've ever come across - and he worked for NorthWest Airlines (a bit of a bummer if you are stranded at their hub for 26 hours). He, I think his name was Jeff, was determined that I shouldn't go in the lounge (he said that my carrier KLM and NorthWest had fallen out two weeks earler). Not only did he throw me out with much sarcasm - he told the women at a second NorthWest lounge not to let me it - they later told me about this little piece of gratuitous viciousness.
The lecture I gave at West Point was on the "computer aided crash". By pure chance my flight into New York was on the same type of aircraft that was the subject of my lecture. The guy next sitting next to me asked me what I was going to do - "Give a lecture on why these plane keep bumping into hard things" I said.
At least I got a few hours in a snowy New York to take photos before being dragged back to England.
