It's an Elk, or as we also call them, a Wapiti. My neighbour here has over 250 of them. He raises them for the horns, and the right time to gather them is exactly as it is on your photo. The velvet is still covering them, which means they are full of hormones and blood. His main customer are the chinese, who use it for their medicine. The pair of horns that you see in your picture are worth a few thousand dollars. They are sold and bought by the weight and the stage of growth. It's a animal that is relativelly docile, until rut time. Then, you better not be in the enclosures, the bucks are very territorial to keep his females.
Voilà
Cheers
