Hong Kong

Sue and I went to Hong Kong for the New Year in 2006. Hong Kong must be the newest, shiniest city on the planet. You can build in any material you like as long as its chrome, stainless steel, or marble-faced concrete. It's also one of the world's friendliest and clean cities with a wide variety of photo-opportunities (the people learn to be photographed long before they learn to walk). I was very impressed with the scale and efficiency of Hong Kong's public transport system.
Oh yes, and did I say we loved Hong Kong?
Since writing the above, some have criticized my enthusiasm for Hong Kong. I must say that I was there as a tourist and my superficial comparison is with other countries I've visited as a tourist. When I said that Hong Kong was 'clean' I meant 'largely free from litter' which is observable - I cannot comment on matters such as pollution. Part of my enthusiasm was due to the very friendly and helpful way way in which people treated us.
My gallery contains a several pictures of weddings. A large number of people were being married at approximately the same time - I was told that this time was auspicious.

Alan, I like all of your galleries. Your photos show the true and realistic. Regarding the clean city issue, I can tell you something more although I have left HK for almost 10 years. Since SARS hit HK few years ago, HK government set up a fine (punishment) of HKD 1500 = USD 195 for littering or spitting on the street to make HK clean. That is why HK is so clean now. I have friends always travel back & forward from HK and telling me that even public washrooms in HK are as clean as in 5 stars hotel washroom. HK government do a good job in keeping HK clean, amazing. Stanley Ip - Toronto Canada

Hi Alan. I enjoyed this gallery even more as I visited HK a few months ago and was seduced by it's charms. We only stayed for 3 days on a stopover on the way to Australia. If you like you can see a small gallery I have posted.

Welcome to Hong Kong and thank you for sharing your pictures. There are much more scenes and country-side other than the disappearing Victoria Harbour, Central and Hong Kong Park. Not sure if it's the world friendliest and cleanist city, but we do have some specialities: as you spotted, the third tallest building in the world and half-a-million people peaceful marching on July 1 2003...
