Makati Anti CharterChange Rally

First and Foremost, let me say, I was there as a Journalist Wannabe, not in any way supporting this rally.

Well, as I was walking around earlier, I could not help but be transported a few years back....when the Cry was to OPEN THAT ENVELOPE and OUST ERAP. The only recognized PEOPLE POWER II.

As I was there in Ayala, I could not help but compare the reason for the PPII's success and the seemingly elusive Real People Power III. I saw the same faces from years back, the same aggression from a few, the same passion from a little more, and the same indifference from MOST.

You can still see MOST are there, and don't even know WHY. And for sure the estimate is not about 30K, any gradeschooler can tell that.

That was January of 2001, the infamous Erap Impeachment trial, the only Impeachment trial that was supported by almost the whole of Filipino People. I was still at the Student Government, and I authored an Article title "enough is SAKTO NA". It had been brewing for months, until such time that Ms Tessie Oreta made her famous dance number at the Hearing, that snapped the public.

Cebu, the ever proud and strong Republic (as we fondly refer to the Metro), went out of the street, with no questions asked, if I remember right, it started at 2am, and the message went around so fast via SMS and went on for days. It was the first time that I actually was there on the street, supporting the call for the President's Impeachment. Saturday, during the Sinulog Procession, I can remember, radios were a mix of the Rosaries, Church Chants, and News. Around 2pm, we heard that it is over, and we got a new President. The Cebuanos had a lot to be thankful for during that year.

Then Arroyo took the seat, she won Cebu by Storm on her Election bid, and has continued to have a hold of that support until present. This is one of the biggest reasons she is still in the seat most probably. Why? Why do Cebuanos love her, why do we protect her, why do we tolerate her?

Actually the answer is so simple....WE DON'T.

However, my attendance to the Interfaith Rally this afternoon just proved my point These people could never get the support of the Filipino people simply because...they only present the Problems, nothing of the SOLUTION.

To make it simple, it is like this..Yes, we already know of the problem, corruption and abuse of power and the rumored Term extension from Charter Change. The people is already aware of this, and we are TIRED of hearing this. As a Cebuano I could fairly say that our solution to this is doing the improvement from within ourselves. Improving on ourselves, our work, and everything that can contribute to the community as a whole.

Cebu is not as progressive as it is now because Cebu is Arroyo's baby/favorite. It is not fair to say that. But even if I don't really like Gwen personally, she is doing a good job being the Governor, and Tommy of Cebu City? Need I say more? A guy who refused a seat in the Senate, saying he only wants to serve the Cebuano People, and telling the reporters that if he gives in to the demands of the protesters, then Cebu doesn't deserve him as a Mayor.

What I am saying is...If these people at the Interfaith Rally, even if they are backed up by ERAP (which is also probably one of the reasons why they never succeeded), can present Solutions, Alternatives, then PROBABLY, this will succeed.

However, I was there for a while, and all I could hear are SWEAR WORDS, CONDEMNING WORDS, and over and over, NO TO CHA CHA, NO TO GLORIA, NO TO WHATEVER...... The answer to this from the rest of the Filipino People.... okay fine...and then what??? Who will we put on the seat? Who will we take over? Erap? of one of his cronies? I doubt it will be satiable enough.

Why don't we just wait for the election and wait who are our choices? In the meantime, we can stop disrupting traffic, work and commerce and PRAY....this is what the EDSA PEOPLE POWER is all about, right? DIVINE INTERVENSION, BLOODLESS REVOLUTION, the PRIESTS, NUNS, PEOPLE going out AS ONE....asking GOD to intervene, Edsa People Power Revolution is not about asking the CURRENT PRESIDENT TO STEP DOWN, it is about ASKING GOD TO SHED LIGHT and give the Filipino People what we DESERVE.
