With a six-foot (72 inch) wingspan and a 6.6 pound weight, they're magnificent in flight. For comparison, herring gulls are 58 inches & 2.5 lbs, and ospreys are 63 inches & 3.5 lbs. You have to get up to the bald eagle (80 inches & 9.5 lbs) to find a bigger bird near the coast.
