I had lived in Carmel for many years in the early 80s - when it was still sweet and innocent - later the Rich people bought up all the wonderful cottages and chased the old people and artists away... now its a ghost town during the week and only the rich can afford it there. Very sad to see it. But still I feel homesick for it ALL the time. The area is so beautiful and my heart belongs to Carmel River beach. Have been back every year since I left - but for the past 2 years I could not travel across the ocean - also hate to go through airport strippings.... But I�m yearning for my beach and the wonderful nature around it. My heart is bleeding.

My husband and I were just here at Big Sur and Carmel/Monterey last week. We love it there and go as often as we can. These pictures are reality! They look similiar to the ones we have taken and treasure! A must see!

When I was growing up we would ride the train from Temple Texas out to California to visit my mother's family. What a trip every summer!!Hunnington Beach, Carmel, Laguna Beach!! What a beautiful place!! These pictures make me home sick for all my relatives!!

The branch line from Castroville through Marina, Fort Ord, Seaside and Monterey is still there and could be restored for passenger use--when I was brakeman on the Del Monte 1965-67 the maximum speed over the branch was only 35 MPH, so we're not talking Japanese Bullet Train standards here, just a nice, poky scenic trip through the Pajaro Canyon, past Elkhorn Slough, to a pleasant depot just a few blocks from Alvarado street. Sure, times are slow; that 's when we should spending our way out of the slump, investing in new or restored capital projects,. promoting secondary businesses like tourism. Tie the trip in with on-board food and fun, put the passengers up at a nice Monterey hotel, breakfast in thevAM, get them back to the City by 11:30.

The pictures are lovely. My first trip to California was this year 2008, didn't get to go down the coast because of the fires. These bring it to life for me.
