C’est quoi ? // What is it?

C’est un arrêt au hasard d’une errance. // Its a stop i did not plan.
Un peu avant la pluie, un vendredi après-midi // A bit before rain, on a friday afternoon.
Alors que j’avais envie de trouver un lac pour marcher dans l’eau. // While all i wanted to do was to find a lake to walk on the shore.
J'ai trouvé un gars qui s'amusait avec le feu. // I found a guy who played with fire.

Il s’appelle Jonathan, Jonathan Léon. // His name is Jonathan, Jonathan Léon.
Un art. Une passion. Une technique rare. // An art. A passion. A rare technique.
Celle d’une main habile qui ne craint pas le feu. // The one of skilled hand not afraid of fire.
Celle du feu qui caresse le verre et de sa bouche qui le souffle. // The one of fire that caress the glass and a mouth that gives it life.
Mais...autrement. // But differently.

Jonathan c’est un sourire franc sur deux pattes. // Jonathan is a walking smile.
Il évolue dans son atelier où la musique aussi transporte. // He evolves in his own workshop where music also transports you.
J'aime. // I like.
Il a une exhubérance sophistiquée qui se marie bien à son art éclaté. // He's got a sophisticated exhuberance that becomes the colour of his art.

Le verre utilisé par Jonathan
est la silice de brome.
Quasi incassable et pas périssable.
Et en plus... ce verre ne requiert aucun entretien.

Borosilicate glass was first developed by German glassmaker Otto Schott
in the late 19th century. Borosilicate glass has a very low thermal expansion coefficient,
about one-third that of ordinary glass.
This reduces material stresses caused by temperature gradients,
thus making it much more resistant to breaking than all other glass.
Borosilicate is also a material of choice for evacuated tube solar thermal technology,
because of its high strength and heat resistance.
The thermal insulation tiles on the Space Shuttle are coated with a borosilicate glass. Borosilicate is referred to as "hard glass"
and has a higher melting point than "soft glass"
which is used in glass blowing formed in large furnaces and large rods.
Borosilicate often has a more three dimensional
and exotic look than soft glass like Lalique,
Baccarat or Murano, with natural and multicolored tones to it.
There is no other glass in the world that is higher in quality
which in return means strength, clearness, flexibility and durability.

Je m'investis aujourd'hui dans le soufflage de verre au chalumeau en traitant chacune de mes pièces comme une oeuvre d'art "portable" faite pour être vue. Mon approche s'apparente plus à celle d'un artiste en arts visuels; l'esthétisme prédomine tout. J'aime le verre pour la technicité du médium. Je me nourris du stress que me demande la difficile maîtrise de la technique; je dois entrer dans un état contemplatif, méditatif complet. Je produis mes oeuvres de manière automatiste.
