Arthur Johnston - Uncle Attie (#14)

Plantagenet, Ontario, CANADA

Arthur McQueen Johnston, 1863-1949

Son of Robert "Red Robin" Johnston and Mary "Mae" Frances McQueen

Photographer: William McConnell of Plantagenet, Ontario, Canada.

This is my Dad's Uncle Attie. When my Dad's father, Clifford Johnston, died young in 1926 from the effects of mustard gas poisoning in WWI, Uncle Attie went out of his way to take my Dad under his wing. I heard many a story about tapping maple trees and boiling the sap down to make maple syrup with Uncle Attie and then eating it on pancakes that Aunt Annie would make. He was an exceptional man. Like many of our Johnstons he was on the tall side at 6'-2".

Uncle Attie went on to marry, raise a family, own 500 acres of land and become a Mason. His was a full life.

This image was restored from the original tintype which was taken ca. 1878.

From an original tintype photograph, ca. 1878, which was scanned, emailed to me, and restored in 2005. The tintype image measures 2-3/8"x3-7/16". full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

The more I get to know my nephew Ron Andrew Edwards, the more this picture reflects a "gene" connection. As Maureen says - ahhhh the genes.

Obviously some STRONG genes, lol. Mary & I couldn't figure out where Colin got his hair for the longest time until we looked at our grandfather Clifford's picture - deadringer on the hair. Glad you like my feeble efforts. Hope you and yours are well.
