This is an image of a sister Campaign Medal to the one that my great, great, great grandfather John McQueen was awarded for his service with the 74th Infantry of Foot (Royal Highlanders) during the Peninsular War, 1808-1814, in which the future Lord Wellington defeated Napoleon's troops in Portugal and Spain.
John McQueen's Campaign medal has 8 clasps above it. They are battle honours and have the names of the 8 battles that he was in: Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelde, and Toulouse. Apparently he missed one battle that the 74th was in while he was with it. I assume that he was recovering from a wound from the previous battle. We are all very proud of our ancestor, John McQueen.
One of my Johnston cousins currently has the medal.
